The ReadSC Writing Contest – formerly Letters About Literature and Young Minds Dreaming – offers students in grades 4 through 12 the chance to submit a letter to an author, or a poem about how they see the world.

Students entering the Letters About Literature contest may write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how that author’s work changed their way of thinking about the world or themselves.

Students interested in entering the Young Minds Dreaming poetry contest may write a poem on how they wish to shape the world, or wish the world to be.

There are three levels for each contest and cash prizes for the winners:

  • Level I for children in grades 4-6
  • Level II for grades 7&8
  • Level III, grades 9–12
