People often ask if there is an app for Discus. There is no app for the Discus website itself because it serves as a pass through to the eight (8) different companies that provide the Discus resources. However, the Discus website is optimized to automatically recognize the device and display the appropriate version for ease of use.
Many Discus resources can be accessed on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs. The database providers currently offering access via free apps or mobile-optimized websites are listed below.
BrainPOP Jr. is currently Flash-based so it must be accessed via the free apps. The BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week app is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store (iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch) or Google Play (Android devices). Although the Movie of the Week is free content, South Carolina residents can log in from the app and access the complete selection of BrainPOP Jr. movies provided by the Discus subscription. The mobile version of BrainPOP Jr. has limited its additional features to belly up, pop a joke, easy quiz, and hard quiz. The app is easily navigable by children aged 5-9; it’s also fully accessible for the visually impaired and is closed captioned for the hearing impaired. The Discus statewide username and password should be used to log in.
Britannica Digital Learning
The content of both Britannica Library and Britannica School is accessible on any device connected to the Internet. The display automatically adjusts to provide the same high-quality user experience. Consider adding a Britannica icon to your device for easy access.
There is a minimal mobile site for Credo Reference that searches all the content within the Discus subscription, but without the resource integration of the main Credo platform. The main Credo Reference platform will become responsive to mobile use by mid-2014.
EBSCOhost Mobile provides the mobile version of EBSCOhost and is accessed on mobile devices using the same link that is used to view the full site. EBSCOhost automatically recognizes mobile device users and displays the appropriate version. Products that are searched on the EBSCOhost interface can be used with EBSCOhost Mobile.
