On-Campus Access
- Each public school district and DISCUS-participating private school should create a link on its Web site that directs users to the DISCUS home page at: http://www.scdiscus.org. All DISCUS resources are listed alphabetically and are accessible from the home page.
- Individual schools or media centers are also encouraged to include a link on their Web sites.
- DISCUS logos are available for your use with such Web links.
- Schools may also create a desktop shortcut to the DISCUS home page.
- For schools that do not have "static" IP addresses registered with the DISCUS Office, users will need to enter the DISCUS username and/or password to access the databases (see "Home Access" instructions below).
- School districts and schools should NOT make separate Web links directly to each DISCUS database. These URLs change frequently, and the DISCUS Office does not provide instructions or support for schools to make such links. Rather, the DISCUS Office keeps the links on the home page updated for school use.
Home Access
- Home/off-campus access to DISCUS resources is made available through the use of a username and/or password.
- The DISCUS Office issues a new username and password each year (in August) and distributes this information to librarians and media specialists throughout South Carolina. This information is valid for a full year (through the following August).
- Users will be required to "log-on" to each database using the current username and/or password. Access information is case sensitive.
- Librarians, media specialists and library staff are encouraged to share this information with eligible South Carolinians (see eligible users below) in person; by e-mail, telephone or fax; or through a variety of printed materials, such as bookmarks, handouts and posters.
- The DISCUS username and password should NEVER be included:
- on any Web site;
- in any printed publications (including school newsletters) that are also posted on a Web site; or
- in any open electronic discussion list (listserv).
- In accordance with the DISCUS licensing agreements, the following individuals are eligible to access the DISCUS databases:
- South Carolina residents; and
- non-residents enrolled or employed in participating educational institutions.
