The South Carolina General Assembly passed new laws, beginning in 2015, requiring that South Carolina’s 11th grade students be administered new assessments: the ACT and the ACT WorkKeys. The State Department of Education has made full details of the testing plan available.
South Carolinians for the Common Good
Middle School Multimedia History Project
Students in South Carolina’s eighth grade social studies classes are invited to participate in the first annual South Carolinians for the Common Good Multimedia History Project sponsored by The Ben Robertson Society of Clemson University. The contest is designed to help middle school students conduct historical research and craft persuasive arguments as they think about Palmetto citizens who have contributed to the common good.
The Discus staff was pleased to meet and greet many of the attendees at the annual conference of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) that was held on March 11-13 in Columbia. The conference theme of “Everyday Heroes” spoke to the incredible and inspiring work that takes place day after day in school libraries and media centers across the state.
