November 12, 2008 - DISCUS was represented once again at the South Carolina State Library's exhibit booth at the EdTech Conference in Myrtle Beach. The annual conference, held this year on November 5-7, provided a wonderful sharing and learning environment for South Carolina's professional educational community. EdTech is planned and coordinated by the South Carolina Association for Educational Technology (SCAET) and is attended by those involved in education throughout the state. The conference theme of "Rock On!" expressed enthusiastic encouragement for the advancement of technology in education. |

July 11, 2008 - An exciting new easy-to-understand visual display of search results is now available in the DISCUS-provided Gale databases with the addition of Gale's One Search. Accessible from the PowerSearch banner, One Search maps results into categories and displays them graphically, allowing the user to drill down into the categories to find more focused search results. |

May 8, 2008 - Books & Authors, the new reader's advisory product from Gale, is now included in the collection of DISCUS resources provided for all South Carolina citizens. Replacing the product known as What Do I Read Next?, Gale describes Books & Authors as "the ideal convergence of science and serendipity" and notes that the database "leverages the Internet's unique capacity to create, build, communicate with and sustain communities of readers." |
