A desktop shortcut to the DISCUS access page used at your institution allows your users to double-click an icon (Windows PCs) and go directly to that page.

To help distinguish the shortcut, a special DISCUS icon has been associated with all pages on the DISCUS site – any page with an address that includes: www.scdiscus.org. On most PCs, this special DISCUS icon will then appear on the desktop instead of the default shortcut icon of your browser.

Here are the general steps for creating a desktop shortcut.

Internet Explorer

1. Go to the desired DISCUS Web page. Recommended are:
• High schools – Use the main (alphabetical) DISCUS home page.
• Elementary and primary schools – Use the DISCUS Kids! page.
• Middle schools – Use either or both of the above.
2. Right-click on the page background (not on an image or a hyperlink).
3. From the pop-up menu, choose: Create Shortcut.
4. You will see a confirmation message box that tells you that a shortcut will be created on your desktop. Click: OK.
   

FireFox

There are two ways to do this:

1. Either create a bookmark and then drag and drop the bookmark to create a desktop shortcut to a page or;
   
2. Install the following FireFox extension: deskCut. This extension will allow you to more easily create desktop shortcuts to websites.

Netscape Navigator

1. Go to the desired DISCUS Web page (see recommendations above).
2. Click the icon that appears to the left of the URL in the location/address bar and drag and drop it to your desktop. (You will need to size your browser window smaller to be able to complete the “drag and drop.”)
